PROBLEM
The Out-Patient Department (OPD) in India is a $40 billion industry, bolstered by associated services such as pharmacy, pathology, and radiology. However, OPD remains broken and stressed, with quality challenges leading to an increased health burden, greater strain on secondary and tertiary care, and difficulties for patients navigating the healthcare system. Efforts by standalone chains and hospital-led OPD chains to build networks of OPD clinics have largely failed for three main reasons: they took on the dual burden of employing top local doctors and attracting patients but failed to retain the best doctors, who often moved on to establish their own practices; doctors took a significant share of consulting revenue (around 80%), straining the business model to cover fixed costs through margins on pharmacy, diagnostics, and radiology; and the dual pressures of attracting top doctors and retaining patients made it difficult for these models to scale effectively.
COMPANY
The company offers a managed workspace where doctors can easily start or expand their private practices. Doctors can rent cubicles for flexible hours and access shared administrative and nursing staff, procedure room facilities, pharmacy, and diagnostic services. They also benefit from backend IT infrastructure, including EMR, doctor marketing, and access to select pharma companies' CMEs and clinical trials. Docube provides an aspirational clinic space in a modular, pay-as-you-go fashion, empowering doctors to grow their practices seamlessly.
